I want to serve God, but I&#8217;m not sure what to do or how to go about it.<\/em><\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Answer<\/h2><p>This is one of the most important questions I have the privilege of answering, partially because so many people ask and partially because I have seen the result when someone finally understands why they are here.<\/p><p><strong>Here is the short answer:<\/strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">everyone&#8217;s purpose is the same<\/span>. We are created to glorify God in everything (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/net\/1co\/10\/31\/s_1072031\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">1 Corinthians 10:31<\/a>).<\/p><p>Secondly, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">every Christian&#8217;s mission is the same<\/span>. We are to spend our lives building up the Body of Christ, the church (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/net\/eph\/2\/8-10\/s_1099008\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Ephesians 2:8-10<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/net\/eph\/4\/11-13\/s_1101012\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">4:11-13<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/net\/2ti\/3\/16-17\/s_1128016\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">2 Timothy 3:16-17<\/a>).<\/p><p>How we accomplish our purpose and mission differs for each person, and many factors can affect that.<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A person who is married or has a family will have different priorities than those who do not.<\/li>\n\n<li>A person with a physical disability will work differently than someone without.<\/li>\n\n<li>Age, gender, career, and culture all play a part in discovering how to best fulfill our roles in the Body.<\/li><\/ul><p>One of the best self-evaluations is based on the acronym SHAPE. You are uniquely designed by God to do your part in the Body based on your:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>S<\/strong>piritual gift(s) &#8211; how the Holy Spirit decided to empower you to serve (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/net\/1co\/12\/7\/s_1074007\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">1 Corinthians 12:7<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>H<\/strong>eart (passions) &#8211; the thing that you cannot imagine living without<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>A<\/strong>bilities &#8211; your natural abilities that you are obviously good at<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>P<\/strong>ersonality &#8211; the way you think, feel, and interact with people and circumstances<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>E<\/strong>xperiences &#8211; the life experiences that have affected your way of thinking and dealing with situations<\/li><\/ul><p>Your SHAPE means that there is no one exactly like you anywhere else, and that makes you suited to minister in a way unlike anyone else.<\/p><p>So, instead of trying to find purpose in your role or job or ministry, shift your thinking to recognize that you already have a pre-defined purpose: to glorify God in everything.<\/p><p>You do that through your ministry, your eating, your fellowship, your family, your fun\u2026through your whole life!
