We begin singing this little song with&nbsp;our children very early so they actually do \u201cknow their ABC\u2019s\u201d (preferably before everyone else\u2019s kids!).<\/p><p>But the ABC\u2019s have come to stand for more than just a set of 26 consonants and vowels. In fact, a quick Google search brings up a whole list of ABC\u2019s:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><span style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\">\u201cThe ABC\u2019s of Financial Success\u201d<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\">\u201cThe ABC\u2019s of the Earthworm Business\u201d <em>(seriously!)<\/em><\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\">\u201cThe ABC\u2019s of Health and Nutrition\u201d<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\">\u201cThe ABC\u2019s for Expectant Dads\u201d<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\">\u201cThe ABC\u2019s of Yoga for Kids\u201d<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p>Somehow A, B, and C have become the poster-letters for anything basic or fundamental. And that\u2019s good because we all need to \u201cknow our ABC\u2019s\u201d \u2013 our fundamentals \u2013 in order to successfully navigate life.<\/p><p>Several years ago I began coaching a couple of boys\u2019 basketball teams at my kids\u2019 school. I played in high school and college and have always loved the game, so I thought it would be great to get back into it and pass along the things I\u2019ve picked up along the way.<\/p><p>But the first couple of weeks reminded me why I do what I do and why God made me the way he did. See, I coached Elementary (4th-6th grade) and Jr. High (6th-8th grade) boys. Most of their basketball experience consisted of watching it on TV or throwing the ball around at recess.<\/p><p>They thought practice would be all learning plays and scrimmaging. But as a coach I knew that learning plays won\u2019t do anything if the players can\u2019t dribble, pass, set screens, shoot, etc. My job was to teach them the ABC\u2019s of basketball so they could win games. That\u2019s when it gets really fun!<\/p><p>My job as a Bible teacher is the same thing. Churches are full of people who want to do great things for God \u2013 they want to scrimmage and win tournaments. But the Christian life is more than just worship services and mission fields.<\/p><p>For some reason, God has made me passionate about the ABC\u2019s \u2013 the fundamentals \u2013 of the Christian faith. This is why I write books and articles. This is why I teach groups of people how to study the Bible for themselves. This is why I started a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oaktreechurch.com\/soap\">public Bible reading plan<\/a> at <a href=\"http:\/\/oaktreechurch.com\">OTCC<\/a> for everyone who wanted to do it. This is why I believe that every Christian should go through a study of biblical theology \u2013 these are fundamental to living a successful Christian life!<\/p><p><strong>What are you doing to learn and build on the ABC\u2019s of Scripture?<\/strong> Have you been baptized (<a href=\"http:\/\/read.ly\/Matt28.19.net\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Matthew 28:19-20<\/a>)? Do you memorize verses and passages \u201cso that you might not sin against God\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/read.ly\/Psa119.11.net\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Psalm 119:11<\/a>)? Do you carefully read and study the Scriptures so you can be \u201ccapable and equipped for every good work\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/read.ly\/2Tim3.16.net\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2 Timothy 3:16-17<\/a>)?<\/p><p>Have you learned your ABC\u2019s? Are you ready to build on those and \u201cprogress beyond the elementary instructions\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/read.ly\/Heb6.1.net\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hebrews 6:1<\/a>)? I\u2019m ready and able to help you.
