Psalm 28

Psalm 28 finishes this short series on God as David’s protector (Psalms 25-28). It begins similar to the end of Psalm 27, with David asking that he not get swept away in God’s judgment on “evil men” (Psalm 28:1-5). He was confident that God would judge them, and he did not want to be a part of it.

Psalm 28:6 is the transition from the first part to the second (Psalm 28:6-9). David could praise God because his request was heard and answered – he would not be caught up in God’s judgment. Because of this, his “heart [was] full of joy” and he could “sing to him in gratitude.”

David finished the psalm with a new request of God – “Deliver your people! Empower the nation…[and] care for them like a shepherd,” something that God had already promised he would do many times over. What a joy it is to watch someone give praise out of their life struggles.
